Austin City Limits 10th Anniversary Line-Up

For the past nine years, thousands have descended on Zilker Park in Austin, Texas for a little music festival known as Austin City Limits.  The festival has ballooned to a three-day music soiree with hundreds of bands and over 70,000 people sweating together in the Texas heat.

2011 marks the festival’s 10th Anniversary and from the get go, we have been promised a stellar line-up fitting for such a party. Seeing as three-day passes sell out before the line-up is released, we all buy-in with a sort of blind faith that the concert organizers will deliver.

I went to bed feeling like a kid on Christmas Eve, eager to see the lineup, which was released at 12 a.m. this morning.  Well, ladies and gentleman, it’s here!  And it’s got me feeling, well, honestly, I’m not sure what I feel just yet.  Don’t get me wrong, there are some great acts and the bill. How could you complain getting to see a legend like Stevie Wonder or music heavyweights of the last 10 years or so like Kanye West and Coldplay. But, to me, this just doesn’t seem like an ACL line-up to me–especially not the 10th Anniversary Line-up we were promised.  Beyond the first few lines of the line-up, there seems to be so many gaping holes. With that, though, I’m determined to make the most of it…because lets face it, it will still be one heck of a party.

Every year there are a smattering of bands I have no or very little knowledge of. This year that seems especially true. SO, I am starting a project to spotlight some, if not most or all of the bands playing this year’s ACL Festival between now and Sept. 16th, the day the madness kicks off.  All of this in the quest to get the very most out of my three days and soak up all of the great music available.  Happy Listening Friends!
