I posted earlier in the week about the tragedy in Japan and found many of you were feeling the same helplessness that I was. With each day, it seems the news just continues to get worse. The devastation is astounding and the threat of a nuclear meltdown is looming.
As I’m sure many of you have heard by now, the ladies over at Ever Ours and Utterly Engaged have teamed up to launch an initiative called For Japan With Love to support an amazing organization called ShelterBox.
Shelter Box is among the valiant first responders when international natural disaster tragedies strike. According to their website, “Each large, green ShelterBox is tailored to a disaster but typically contains a disaster relief tent for an extended family, blankets, water storage and purification equipment, cooking utensils, a stove, a basic tool kit, a children’s activity pack and other vital items.” We often forget that these most basic essential items are hard to come by when disaster strikes. ShelterBox makes survival possible for those who have lost everything.
In addition to raising funds for this great organization, Ever Ours and Utterly Engaged have organized a Bloggers Day of Silence to raise awareness and allow us all time to give back and reflect. I will be taking part, along with HUNDREDS of other bloggers, and as such, will not be posting tomorrow. I strongly encourage you to use Friday to do some research and find out how you would best support Japan. Of course, I think Shelter Box would be a wonderful choice, and I’ve also mentioned the Red Cross, but there are many other deserving organizations who might fit your taste better. Whatever you decide, extend a helping hand to those most in need.
