Experiments in DIY

There’s nothing like starting the week on the heels of a productive weekend. I got a few chores done that had been nagging at me but also had the opportunity to spend some time with some special people and have some me time getting creative.

Things have been so crazy busy lately that it seems Bear and I hardly have time to see each other.  Luckily, Friday night was obligation free and we made the most of it with a delish dinner at a little Vietnamese restaurant called Mai’s in East Dallas.  It was so nice just being with him and not worrying about anything else in the world.

He headed to Austin Saturday so I decided to take advantage of some me-time and get a little creative.  The couple who previously owned Bear’s house were so great and left quite a few things behind for him to have. One of which was a great outdoor table and chairs that we use regularly.  The only thing is they are a little rusty and discolored so I decided to tackle them and give them a fresh coat of paint.

BEFORE: Great table set...it just needed a little facelift.

Of course, it ended up being a bit more labor-intensive than I thought it would be, but I’m thrilled with the results.  It only took two trips to Home Depot and two days of hard work and Wha-La! It’s like we have a brand new outdoor set! What do you think?

AFTER: Just like new!

I picked up these two lamps at a resale shop a month or so ago (only $20 for both lamps! Awesome!) and decided, while I was in the painting spirit, I may as well fix them up too! Now I just have to find new shades for them. Any suggestions?

BEFORE: Good shape, not so good color. Agreed?

AFTER: Gilded beauties, aren't they?

I really do relish having downtime and even with getting as much done as I did this weekend, it was therapeutic to have a just-because-I-want-to project to focus my efforts on and successfully accomplish.  So after knocking all of that out this weekend, I feel motivated and eager to get a few more projects done this week. What does your week hold?
