Have you seen the trailer for Wes Anderson‘s new movie Moonrise Kingdom? I had stumbled across it sometime last week after seeing some buzz about it on Twitter following its open in New York and LA. I was excited to see it was opening this week in Dallas and quickly roped Bear in for a movie night Friday. Up to this point, Anderson is probably best known for his films The Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and The Darjeeling Limited. But I have a feeling this might become his piece de resistance.
As with most of Anderson’s films, the cast is brilliant and each delivers a knockout performance. But the story of this film is what really steals your heart. It centers on a pair of otherwise misfit 12-year-olds who fall in love after a chance meeting during a church pageant and run away together. I can’t recommend enough that you go see this if/when it shows near you. It’s funny, it’s touching, it is aesthetically interesting. I’m already plotting when I can go see it again. Have you seen it yet?
