Summer afternoon, summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.

Happy Summer Solstice! Summer is officially here which, in Texas, doesn’t mean just a whole lot since we’ve been in 100 degree temps for over a week now, and have been making good use of the pools and lakes for more than a month.
Nevertheless, there’s something special about the official arrival of summer. Summer means it stays light until late, pool parties, backyard bar-b-ques, cocktails on the patio, vacation, summer reading and endless amounts of good music. While fall is quickly rising in the ranks to my favorite season, there is something about summer that I don’t think will ever go away. I think it harks back to my childhood—summer meant freedom from schedules and obligations, it was time to just be a kid. And maybe there’s still a whole lot of kid in me left to live out.
